Can you take doxycycline hyclate and amoxicillin at the same time? Yeast infection?
Okay, about two weeks ago (approx the 10th) i started taking 500mg Amoxicillin 3 times a day to get rid of any infection in my mouth due to me having a root canal on the 17th. Last week around wednesday (15th) i started noticing symptoms of a yeast infection (itchy, irritated, dry) and intercourse was painful. I read online that Amoxicillin can cause yeast infections and i’ve never had one before so im pretty pissed about that. ]:<
Besides that, i still have to take the Amoxicillin for about another week until i have the permanent cap on my tooth, but i want to get rid of this infection too! I can’t stop taking the amoxicillin, because i dont want an infection in my mouth. My mom has had yeast infections before and has the medicine to treat yeast infections (doxycycline hyclate) and i was wondering if its okay to take them at the same time? Should i just go to the gyno anyways to make sure its a yeast infection and make sure its okay for me to take these two medications? Any help appreciated thankss.

Doxycycline and Penicillins such as amoxicillin do have an interaction that may reduce the efficacy of the amoxicillin. They are not strictly contraindicated together but it would be preferable to take them separately.
Be aware that doxycycline can interfere with the oral contraceptive pill so you should use an alternative form of contraception in addition to the pill (eg. Condom) when taking it.
An alternative that doesn’t interact with penicillins is Clotrimazole Fluconazole (marketed as Canesoral Duo Combination pack – pill + cream). Again it interacts with oral contraceptives so you must use a condom.

Dont ask how old i am or if i have a yeast infection in my mouth. You can do a spit test to see if you have a yeast infection so that is the reason why im curious

Yes you both need to be treated or you will continue to pass it back and forth. Usually a person has a yeast infection a few days before they know it.
