Several Facts About Candida Yeast And One Way To Test Someone For A Yeast Infection In Your Own Home

Health care professionals confirm that the overgrowth of yeast, a. K. a candida, infects 89% of the US population. it still is widely unknown by many American citizens that re-occurring yeast infections are most often due to the use or overusing of antibiotics, steroids, NSAIDS, and poor diet habits. If you follow the diet that is considered standard to most American citizens, you are largely in danger of getting a yeast infection.

Candida overgrowth is the results of our lifestyles of popping a tablet for every problem, taking antibiotics for every thing, eating junk food, having an elevated sugar intake, and eating fast foods. all of these things are setting a prime situation for yeast infection to take over. having an overgrowth of candida can frequently be mistaken for other Problems. An overgrowth of candida has many various symptoms.

The most typical symptoms are usually thought to be jock itch, thrush, athlete’s foot, and ringworm. But symptoms that are far more unusually known, and frequently do not appear related in any way, are these – food sensitivities, prolonged fatigue, digestion-related problems, bowel problems, headaches, sexual disfunction, and the list goes on and on. If you're experiencing any of these symptoms, it's a reasonable chance that you have a yeast infection.

Nevertheless many of us, because of shortage of data, will get an easy, quick solution medication at a drugstore, like Monistat 7. While this can fix the problem momentarily, it is actually just setting you up to have recurring contagions. Since candida overgrowth was likely due to the taking of medication, antibiotics, prescribed drugs or drugs, does it not make sense that it would also be pretty unlikely to be cured by antibiotics or medication?

If you choose to follow a stern diet in order to help get rid of a yeast infection, the diet typically prescribed would consist mostly of meat and veg. Carbs, starches, and sugars all feed the yeast and leads it to multiply. Other things which can multiply it as well are foods that contain yeast, like breads and alcoholic beverages, and other foods like aged cheeses, mushrooms, and vinegar.

You will already have a good idea whether you have got a yeast infection or not, but to be really sure, you might want to be tested. Getting tested for candid by a doctor is a complicated process. There is a straightforward test you can do by yourself comfortable that may give you a precise idea as to whether you are indeed experiencing a problem with an overgrowth of candida.

Here is the straightforward, do at home test:

First thing in the morning, before you eat or drink anything, get a clear, see through glass, and fill it with water. Work up a little bit of spit, then spit it into the tumbler of water. Set the glass on the counter, and be certain to look at it after two to three minutes. If you see nothing, keep checking it each ten to fifteen minutes, until at least one hour has passed.

What you are watching for is this: If you have got a candida yeast infection, you will see strings developing, like clouded legs, traveling down into the water from the saliva floating on top. or your saliva will look clouded and will sink to the bottom of the glass, with cloudy specks possibly suspended in the water. The more strings and clouds you see, and the faster they develop, the larger your overgrowth is. If you see no strings or cloudiness, the water is as clear as before, and your spit is still floating after one hour, you are quite sure to be overgrowth free.

While candida can still pose a truly real health challenge for both women and men, thankfully , there are now practical answers that may help victims find real relief, and also keep contagions from reoccurring all the time. you do not have to be a victum for the rest of your life, neither do you have to eat a constrained diet for ever and ever simply to keep that difficulty from recurring. you now have the ability to find a natural cure for yeast infection, and be free for keeps.

Nagy column: A few tips to get rid of the ‘winter blues’

Friday, December 23, 2011 12:00 AM | Printer friendly version | E-mail to a friend |

Poof, the holiday season is upon us! This is supposed to be the time of year to be merry and full of good cheer, but many of us tend to feel downright dull and depressed instead.

Twenty-five percent of the population suffers from a significant drop in mood and energy during the winter, often known as the “winter blues.” of those suffering with the winter blues, more than 20 percent develop seasonal depression, or seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Common symptoms of SAD include weight gain, lethargy, fatigue, irritability and decreased sociability.

Have you experienced any of these symptoms in winters past? Here are some options to consider so you don’t have to live with a sour mood until the brighter days of spring arrive. You don’t have to turn to dangerous and questionably effective anti-depressants either. Consider Mother Nature’s mood boosters. Mother Nature provides all of the essential ingredients your brain needs to function optimally and to lift your spirits naturally. Including many of these options in your life can help you feel much better!

Here are some of the top natural mood-boosters and how they work:

• Omega-3 Fats: while you know that fish consumption is good for your brain, you might not realize that it’s a “mood food” too. the essential fatty acids found in cold water fish — omega-3 — are critical to brain health and mood, yet as many as 80 percent of us don’t get enough. Omega-3s help build connections between neurons in the brain and they also help create the receptor sites for neurotransmitters. Optimize your omega-3s by enjoying wild caught seafood (like salmon and sardines) or by taking a high quality fish oil supplement.

• Vitamin D: the “sunshine vitamin” does a lot to help brighten your mood. up to 90 percent of us are deficient at least part of the year (mostly winter months), and as many as 50 percent of us are critically deficient. To combat the doldrums, optimize your vitamin D level with 20-30 minutes of sunlight at least 3-5 days a week. If you live in a climate where this is not possible, consider “light therapy” which is generally accepted as one of the most effective treatments for SAD. You may wish to supplement your diet with vitamin-D rich cod-liver oil or take a supplement with 2,000-5,000 IUs of vitamin D3 daily. Optimal D levels are also thought to be protective of the flu.

• B Vitamins: Vitamins B6, B12 and folate also help to produce mood-boosting serotonin. That’s not all these B-vitamins do. They also lower homocysteine — an amino acid that increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and depression. a 2002 study found that women with high homocysteine levels had double the incidence of depression. B-vitamins in the body are depleted by stress, (which is plentiful during the holidays!) so be sure to include lots of foods rich in these nutrients in your diet, like leafy greens, avocados, asparagus, broccoli, bell peppers, chicken, salmon, lamb, liver, beef and non-fortified brewer’s yeast.

• Selenium: Selenium is critical for immune health and staying healthy through the holidays. Here’s a good reason to top off your supply: Low levels of selenium are also associated with an increased risk of depression. Consider supplementing selenium or better yet, enjoy Brazil nuts, as just one provides 150 percent of the US RDA of selenium.

• Antioxidants: Fighting free radicals means protecting cells — including brain cells, which are most susceptible to damage. Clinical studies have found that people with depression have low levels of antioxidants in their blood. Improve your diet with high antioxidant foods, like blueberries, cranberries, blackberries and raspberries, organic dark cacao and supercharged antioxidant spices like cinnamon, turmeric and cloves.

• Animal Protein: If you’re a vegetarian, you may be lacking the important depression-fighting amino acid — tryptophan, an important precursor to serotonin. Protein-rich foods such as grass fed beef; free-range chicken and pastured eggs are some of the best sources of tryptophan.

• Probiotics: Depression is not all in your head. It could be in your gut too. your gut is responsible for making many neurotransmitters and small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) has been found to contribute to depression by promoting inflammation and oxidative stress, as well as reducing the absorption of mood-boosting nutrients. get your gut health in check by enjoying fermented foods (like sauerkraut, kimchi and kombucha), raw, grass-fed cultured dairy products (like kefir and yogurt) and taking a high quality probiotic. I’ve been taught that everyone consuming the American diet should be on a probiotic to improve gut health.

• Low Glycemic Carbs: Refined carbs (all the whites, bread, flour, rice, sugar, etc.) cause a sugar buzz or “high” and subsequent crash. while that’s bad news for energy and insulin levels, there’s even more to the story. Sugar burns up your mood-enhancing B-vitamins and diverts the supply of chromium — a mineral that helps keep blood sugar stable and positively affects the release of feel-good norepinephrine and serotonin. be sure to opt for complex carb foods, and replace your typical sugary holiday treats with just-as-delicious low or no sugar substitutes. We’ve been confused all these years eating a low-fat diet when we should have been eating a low sugar/carb diet.

There are two natural supplements that can boost your mood and help to keep your neurotransmitters in balance. They are SAM-e and 5-HTP. Anti-depressant medications can cause serious side-effects — including addiction, aggression, and worsening depression (including thoughts of suicide), not to mention an increased risk of cardiovascular events and even death. Try some of the natural mood boosters first before turning to a pill

If you want to further address or avoid depression, start by exercising consistently, enjoying time in the sun frequently and following as many of the nutritional guidelines listed above as possible.

Keep your wits about you during these stressful holiday and winter months and incorporate the proper nutrients into your diet to help you stay at your mental peak throughout the winter.

Advice regarding Antibiotics For Yeast Infection

Antibiotic medicines are widely prescribed for many ailments. Studies indicate that these drugs might actually cause, rather than cure, this problem. much attention has been given to this situation recently, and there is quite a lot of conflicting advice. the website contains valuable information and advice for people researching the effects of using antibiotics for yeast infection.

An antibiotic is a drug which kills bacteria. good bacteria live in the body as well as bad bacteria, and these drugs are indiscriminate. it will kill both the harmful and the beneficial bacterias. Widespread use of these prescribed drugs over the last few decades have led to some bacteria actually being resistant to them. this can make it harder to treat an infection successfully.

There are many side effects to antibiotic medicines. Among these are nausea, allergic reactions, and loose bowel movements. it is recommended you ask your doctor what the side effects might be when he gives you a prescription for a drug such as this. He is the best person to advise you what to expect in the way of side effects, and what to do should they appear.

A systemic infection may occur after prolonged use of antibiotic drugs. the symptoms for this type of ailment are itching, burning, and an offensive odor. the types of organisms which can cause this are found in many women, although they can affect men, too. These bacteria and other microbes can overgrow if the body’s chemistry starts to change. the imbalance created by this overgrowth is what causes the problems.

Candidiasis is the overgrowth which is commonly found. Candida has many different forms, candida albicans being the most prevalent. this yeast infection thrives in most and warm areas. Vaginal thrush is often how it manifests in women. Diaper rash, skin hives, nail fungal infections, and also oral thrush can indicate a candida overgrowth. it is often painful to swallow with oral thrush. Guarding against dehydration in this instance is important. Children and infants can be affected, as well as men and women.

Candida infestations are usually superficial and easily treated. Over-the-counter remedies to treat it are available from the pharmacy. the nail bed areas prove the most stubborn to treat, and usually long term care. Antibiotics for yeast infection issues such as mild candida may not be needed.

Long term candida imbalances require more aggressive treatments. Antibiotic drugs may not be appropriate in this instance. Anti-fungal creams may be prescribed, and oral anti-fungal medication. a change in diet may be advised. In very rare instances, medicines may have to be administered intravenously.

While antibiotics may be a large part of today’s medicine, their side effects can be diminished. Discuss this with a doctor when a prescription for the medication is written. Many self-help treatments can assist in the prevention and cure for conditions such as candidiasis and other infestations. there is valuable information contained in the website for those who are looking into the consequences of antibiotics for yeast infection.

Health & Wellness

By Dr. Michael Yarish, ND Naturopathic Physician

Autoimmune diseases are considered by the allopathic community to be incurable, life-long illnesses to be managed with various pharmaceuticals including painkillers, muscle relaxants, steroids and anxiolytics.

Everything is done to suppress and stop the immune system, with the underlying thought that the immune system is not functioning correctly. this is a misconception. the problem is not with the immune system, but with toxic over-burden. most autoimmune diseases such as celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), systemic lupus erythmatous (SLE), Raynaud’s disease, scleroderma, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), atopic dermatitis (eczema), and psoriasis are the result of an over-accumulation of toxins in multiple body tissues and organ systems. Exposure to toxins found in our food and environment, along with various yeasts and bacterial toxins found in our intestinal tract, not to mention increased consumption of sugar in all forms, all lead to system wide dysfunctions that ultimately cause the body’s immune system to attack itself.

Elemental mercury found in dental amalgams, ethylmercury found in vaccines and fungicides (which are sprayed on fruits), and inorganic mercury found in cosmetics, laxatives, nasal sprays, diuretics, antiseptics and some fish have been associated with Multiple Sclerosis,

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), atopic dermatitis (eczema), and psoriasis. Heavy metals cause chronic weakness in the body’s detoxification systems, and are deposited in the liver, kidneys, spleen, blood plasma, the placenta and in fetal or adult brain tissues. Effects of mercury in the brain relating to autoimmunity are demyelination, abnormal cell division, mitochondrial com damage, micortubule destruction, DNA and cellular damage.

Heavy metal burden may further compromise and damage the gastrointestinal lining, leading to the colonization of the small intestine with yeast, protozoa and gram-negative bacteria. this toxic overgrowth promotes an immune response which cross reacts with human body tissues leading to chronic prolonged inflammation. In short, the autoimmune process occurs because the tissue is so toxic that the immune system can’t differentiate between invading toxins and healthy tissue — the immune system simply attacks the tissue where the toxins have pooled.

At the Lakeside Clinic, our goal is to help you reverse the autoimmune process. our program includes the identification and effective detoxification of heavy metal burden by using DMSA/DMPS chelation, in conjunction with proper diet modification, including the avoidance of food sensitivities and toxins, as well as extensive multi-organ detoxification regimens. by naturally allowing the body to detoxify through its own means of eliminatory pathways, the immune system can then recognize what is normal, healthy tissue and what is toxic matter. for more on the clinic, visit thelakesideclinic.com.

Keep your health on the front burner during the holidays – Entertainment – The Guardian

Question: do you have any tips to avoid gaining 10 lbs and feeling totally toxic after the holidays but yet still enjoy yourself?

Answer: Holiday festivities are well underway and too many of us are guilty of overspending and overindulging in the wrong foods, sugar and alcohol.  here are some tips on how to enjoy without playing for it: Choose protein like meatballs, shrimp, chicken wings and lots of veggies which will keep your blood sugar more stable and are best for weight loss and stabilizing mood.

PGX high fibre, high protein pre-meal shakes can help curb your appetite to reduce temptation.  Avoid flour and sugar as much as possible as they promote weight gain and bothersome yeast overgrowth. Experiment with avoiding dairy if you have a lot of mucous and/or intestinal gas. Now, I am not condoning drinking to the point of drunkenness but a multi B compound (with niacinamide not niacin as it causes flushing in many people) and the amino acid NAC 1000 mg before bed both do wonders to speed the metabolism of alcohol and reduce its toxic effects for when the party is over.

Digestive enzymes taken while eating and up to two hours afterwards can help reduce the bloating and gas many get after overindulging or eating lots of wheat and dairy. To neutralize some of the weight gain, (or imagine even lose a few pounds if you eat as I’ve mentioned above), consider CLA One which has been shown to decrease abdominal fat and increase lean mass over a six week period. Probiotics are helpful to reduce yeast over growth from too many sweets and alcohol. A nice healthy treat is 70 per cent dark chocolate, which is low in sugar. my suggestion is not to put your health on the back burner over the holidays so that you go into the new year feeling on track and less overwhelmed by credit card bills and new year’s resolutions to lose weight and live healthier.

Question: this time of year makes me feel really stressed because of financial pressures and probably bad emotions associated with Christmas. is there anything natural to help a person feel a little calmer?

Answer: Journaling, counselling, meditation, feeling gratitude for what is good in your life, supporting brain chemistry and balance in your body with regular meals that emphasize protein, fruit, veggies, raw nuts and seeds. B vitamins, magnesium, vitamin D and fish oil are all nutrients shown to impact on mood. sometimes getting outside of ourselves and tuning into others can be a welcome distraction from our self. for anxiety that is very acute I would suggest GABA dosed gradually throughout the day or no more than 750 mg twice daily. GABA cannot be taken in conjunction with benzodiazepines.

Personal favourites of mine for gifts that cost nothing or very little include backrubs, offering to babysit, fix something, make supper or frame a special photograph. they mean as much or more than anything money can buy. Children often want our attention as much as any thing money can buy, so being silly, playing a game, going bowling, street hockey or a dance party will linger in a child’s mind longer than anything.

Recognizing Candida Overgrowth Symptoms

Recognizing Candida overgrowth symptoms will help you know if you should start a yeast free diet. Some of the symptoms of yeast overgrowth are seemingly unrelated. this may cause them to be missed or not connected with yeast at all, but if you know what to look for you’ll be able to recognize symptoms of Candidiasis that some people may miss.

In the early stages of developing a yeast problem you may have a short bout of diarrhea. You may not even notice it when it happens, but if you do notice look out for other signs and symptoms. after this initial bout of diarrhea you may notice some bloating in the abdomen. You also may notice an increased amount of gas. You also will start to have regular digestive problems. those could manifest as diarrhea or constipation.

As the yeast becomes more active in your body, the yeast overgrowth problem will become systemic. that means you’ll start to see evidence of yeast in other areas besides the digestive tract. the most common way yeast turns up is in yeast infections or vaginitis. if you get yeast infections on a regular basis you most probably have a Candida problem. Men can get yeast infections or thrush under the foreskin. You can also get oral thrush which is a yeast infection in the mouth. You may also get yeast infections in your ears and rectum. those two infections commonly only present as itchiness in your ears or around you anus. when you start to have these problems the yeast has started to spread throughout your body.

As your Candida overgrowth progresses the yeast sink deep into your intestinal walls making your intestines more permeable. this causes a condition known as leaky gut syndrome that allows toxins and undigested food particles to leak into the bloodstream from the digestive system. if you develop this syndrome you’ll notice increased headaches and a constant feeling of fatigue.

Your digestive tract and your immune system are closely linked. Some autoimmune diseases have been linked to yeast overgrowth. Fibromyalgia, psoriasis, eczema, IBS, Crohn’s disease, lupus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and ulcerative colitis have all been linked to yeast overgrowth.

If you have Candidiasis you may also notice aches and pains in your muscles and joints. You could develop depression or mood swings. it has even been linked to infertility.

Yeast is a fungus that won’t just go away on it’s own. You have to take action to get rid of it. whether you decide to use herbs or medication to kill the yeast you’ll need to follow a diet to help kill off the yeast and restore your health. Yeast free diets are strict but they do work and you’ll only have to follow it for about six weeks.

Hotze Health & Wellness Center Addresses Overuse and Misuse of Antibiotics During Get Smart About Antibiotics Week

HOUSTON, Nov 17, 2011 (BUSINESS WIRE) –In light of get Smart about Antibiotics Week, Hotze Health & Wellness Center (HHWC) encourages Americans to educate themselves on appropriate antibiotic use. HHWC addresses health trends resulting from overuse of antibiotics such as yeast overgrowth, and how to avoid recurrent infections.

Antibiotics are among the most frequently used medications in the United States. Each year, physicians write about 100 million antibiotic prescriptions, and pharmaceutical manufacturers spend $1 billion promoting them. A report by the National Institute of Medicine found that up to 50 percent of antibiotics are prescribed needlessly. Dr. Steven Hotze, founder and CEO of HHWC, explains that yeast overgrowth, oftentimes caused by frequent use of antibiotics, is behind many of the symptoms plaguing Americans.

“If you have ever taken antibiotics, eaten antibiotic-injected meat or dairy products, or taken birth control pills, it’s likely that yeast overgrowth is affecting you, manifesting itself through a variety of painful, and seemingly unrelated symptoms,” said Dr. Hotze.

the effects of yeast overgrowth

In the digestive tract, yeast can cause symptoms such as cramping, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. Women often develop vaginal yeast infections as healthy bacteria are destroyed and yeast proliferates. Toxins released by yeast enter the bloodstream, and impair immunity causing additional symptoms such as fatigue, depression, inability to concentrate, headaches, muscle aches, joint pain, skin rashes and athlete’s foot.

A weakened immune system contributes to recurrent infections leading to frequent antibiotic use, and the killing of good bacteria, further perpetuating the cycle.

the following steps effectively treat yeast overgrowth:

1. Eradicate: the first step is to kill yeast in the body with antifungal medication, which doesn’t harm beneficial bacteria.

2. Eliminate: Prevent yeast overgrowth from regaining a foothold in the body by following a yeast-free eating program that eliminates dietary sources such as sugar, carbohydrates and fermented products. the Hotze Optimal Eating Cookbook provides dietary guidelines and yeast-free recipes.

3. Repopulate: Replenish healthy bacteria. It’s essential to repopulate what antibiotic use has destroyed by taking probiotic supplements.

to determine if yeast overgrowth is affecting you, take an online vitamin and mineral and hormonal balance quiz.
