Bacterial Vaginosis – Dry and Itchy Vagina

A dry and itchy vagina is a common symptom of yeast infection. Yeast infection is quite similar to bacterial vaginosis but must not be confused with it. Although both can cause vaginal infection, bacterial vaginosis is commonly manifested by an abnormal discharge in the vagina. Yeast infection can be treated by counter yeast creams which can be bought over-the-counter. However, it is always best to seek medical advice first before administering any drug or treatment to yourself as it might cause further infection are more severe conditions.

A dry and itchy vagina is not always caused by bacterial infection. it may simply be caused by wearing tampons for a prolonged period, e.g. several days in a row. Wearing tampons to absorb menstrual flow will most likely absorb not only blood, but vaginal lubricants as well. these lubricants keep your genital area moist and free from itching. Absence of which may cause discomfort, irritation, dryness, and itching.

Another cause for dryness is washing the vagina several times. Multiple washing will rinse off the natural secretion of the vagina. This secretion is the body’s natural method of cleaning and keeping the vagina from getting dry. Dryness and absence of moist is a very probable cause of itchiness. Dry vaginas are also very prone to rashes.

If you practice shaving off your pubic hair, the cream or shave you are using might have undesirable effects to your genitalia. Rinsing after shave may also cause more self-protective secretions to be washed away. Anything that you use to clean the vagina, whether it is commercial solutions or water, will natural alter the body’s self-protective process and thus causing dryness and itchiness.

Simple itching without dryness may simply be caused by wearing too many layers of clothes for prolonged time. Wearing panties for 24 hours may make you feel comfortable but it may also cause itchiness. Do not be embarrassed or hesitant to seek medical advice. Doing the contrary will only make your conditions worse.

In appreciation of awkwardness

I think it’s great that life is full of unzipped flies, parentswalking in on masturbational shenanigans and audible farts duringsex. These embarrassing moments are so brutal because they are whatpeople remember you by. you can be the football starter or the swimteam captain, but people will still know you as the girl who hadher period in the pool during gym class or the guy who shit hispants at Joseph’s sleepover in the seventh grade.

These images can be painful to remember. I would rather fistfucka goat than think about the girl who rejected my homecominginvitation or the time all my friends saw my wiener (which waspractically concave at that moment) because I didn’t know the doorwas open. in fact, my junior year of high school I had an entirerelationship based on forced conversation, excruciating eye contactand awkward hand jobs.

When it’s painful to recall these embarrassing moments, it helpsme to think about other peoples’ instead. for example, one friendin high school thought bras had Velcro clasps (which they should),so he spent 10 minutes trying to rip his girlfriend’s bra off untilshe started crying. another friend was fooling around with herboyfriend when she heard her mom coming towards her room. Panicked, she impulsively opened her computer to cover it up only to blastthe porn she had been previously watching.

Everyone said that high school would be the most awkward time ofour lives, but college is a close second.  There’s still acne, itchy crotch syndrome and crazy amounts of sexual tension. Nowthere’s just more booze.

Watching drunk guys hit on girls is exceptionally entertaining. It’s great to watch respectable people turn into belligerentanimals that would buy drinks for a one-eyed ogre in exchange forsome sloppy bathroom sex.

Here I’d like to note how much I support this role of alcohol, because I think sober guys—probably girls too—set their standardstoo high. Sober guys want girls who have no fat and PamelaAnderson’s breasts. It’s ridiculous; not all women can lookflawless like Jessica Alba and Justin Bieber. Women are supposed tohave imperfections like misshapen boobs, cellulite, and even somehair down under. so mother fucking kudos to our friend Al Kohallfor allowing us to see the beauty in life.

Anyway, back to awkwardness. Drinking just makes the whole nightso painful—yet so fun—to watch. That’s why Jersey Shore and CharlieSheen exist. From horrible pickup lines (“Someone call bomb squadbecause you’re one Weapon of Mass Turbation”) and forgotten names,to the queefs that echo into the night, Madison’s nightlife is aperfect place to make myself feel better about embarrassing stuff, like the fact that I thought a ‘pussy’ was a cat’s vagina until Iwas in tenth grade.

Ben shared some painful memories, why don’t you give back? Tweet@stoffelrosales your embarrassing moments. He promises not to tellanyone.

Vaginal Itching – Causes of Vaginal Itching

Itching anywhere is an unpleasant affliction that can cause us discomfort and make it difficult to relax. However few kinds of itching are as unpleasant as vaginal itching – or genital itching for men – as it’s an area that is embarrassing to itch in public, and which is normally shut away thus making it difficult to reach (and particularly to reach slyly). at the same time it can be a cause for concern.

Causes of Vaginal Itching

Hygiene

There are a number of reasons that improper hygiene can cause vaginal itching. Not wiping fully after urinating for instance can cause vaginal itching as it leaves your vagina moist and wet and because urine is acidic. Likewise not drying properly after a bath or shower can also cause vaginal itching. Alternatively if you sweat a lot this can also cause your vagina to itch and can create what is known as a ‘sweat rash’. to avoid this, make sure to change your underwear after any exertion and to wash thoroughly.

Allergy

Many allergies can affect the groin and this could be an allergy to a new detergent you are using when washing your knickers or trousers, or even an allergy to semen which can also cause itching. If you feel itchy and/or sore after sex then try using protection to determine whether a semen allergy might be the cause. in some cases it might even be a latex allergy which can be triggered by the condoms.

STD

Yes unfortunately you eventually have to face the possibility that your vaginal itching is caused by an STD. there are many STDs that can cause itching from thrush to herpes. If you have had unprotected sex with a new partner recently, or if the itchiness occurs with other symptoms such as a rash, discharge or painful urination, then you should consult a physician.

Yeast Infection

A yeast infection can be caused by an imbalance of bacteria (normally it is caused by ‘candida’) around the vagina and could result in infections such as vaginitis which causes swelling, itching and discharge.

Itchy Vagina? Reasons for Vaginal Itching and How You Can Gain Relief

Some Reasons for Vaginal Itching include:

Synthetic Clothing

Clothes made from synthetic (man-made) fibres such as polyester, rayon and nylon do not allow your skin to ‘breathe’. Breathe in this context means air moving around the vaginal areas. these synthetic materials – especially when made into tight-fitting panties, can cause moisture to build up on the surface of the skin they cover. This moist skin rubbing against itself or against clothing can cause itching and redness. Wearing panties made from natural fibres such as cotton can help to keep your vaginal areas drier.

Chafing Caused during Sex

Many women become itchy in and around the vagina after sex, mostly due to chafing caused during sex. Chafing often happens during intercourse when pubic hair rubs against sensitive genital skin. Hair removal can help to prevent this from occurring.

Fungal Infections of the Vagina

Fungal infections, also known as Yeast infection, Candida (Candidiasis) or Thrush are a common cause of intense vaginal itchiness, redness and soreness. Signs of Candida include a white or yellowish cottage cheese-like discharge and a cheese-like smell. There are many products on the market – both natural and over-the counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products that can help to reduce or eliminate this overgrowth of the naturally occurring fungal microbe, Candida Albicans. if you are in doubt about whether you have a fungal infection of the vagina or not, please see your doctor to be diagnosed.

Bacterial and other Infections of the Vagina

Bacterial infections such as bacterial vaginosis, and protozoan infections caused by a little parasite called Trichonomas vaginalis can cause itching as well as unpleasant smelling discharge (fishy or like decaying meat), and soreness. if you suspect you may have a bacterial or protozoan infection or do not know what the problem could be, please consult your doctor – antibiotic treatment may be necessary.

Sexually Transmitted Infections

STIs (sexually transmitted infections) can cause itching. Some examples of STIs include chlamydia, gonorrhea and genital herpes. if you suspect you may have an STI, please see a doctor so that it can be properly diagnosed and treated.

How to Relieve Vaginal Itching

There are a number of different types of products on the market for the relief of vaginal itching including:

Local Anaesthetic-Type Creams

Local anaesthetic creams dull the nerve endings around the vagina. these products have a chemical anaesthetic such as benzocaine as their active ingredient. They are recommended for external vaginal use. When the local anaesthetic wears off, the itching often returns because the creams do not contain any ingredients to help resolve the cause of the vaginal itching.

Anti-Fungal Pills, Creams and Pessaries

Anti-fungal products work well if you know you are suffering from a fungal infection. Oral pills generally contain the anti-fungal chemical, Fluconazole. Fluconazole taken orally can affect the whole body, however and not just the vagina. Indiscriminate ‘whole body’ anti-fungal action can cause other microbes such as bacteria to proliferate elsewhere in the body since bacteria are usually kept in a state of natural balance by healthy competition from other microbes.

Antifungal creams and pessaries contain other -azole drugs such as Clotrimazole, Miconazole, Tiocinazole and Butoconazole. these pharmaceutical antifungal treatments can be effective for vaginal itching if the itching is caused by Candida microbes. these drugs are ineffective for vaginal itching that is not the result of fungal infections. There can also be problems with antifungal drug treatments when Candida fungal microbes develop resistance to them. Antifungal drugs are becoming ineffective for many women who suffer frequently from Candida infections.

Natural Options to Relieve Vaginal Itching

Douching with tea tree oil

The essential oil of tea tree has been used widely in herbal medicine for the treatment of vaginal itching. Tea tree oil is naturally anti-fungal and anti-bacterial which helps to address the causes of vaginal itching as well as relieving the itch itself. if you plan to use tea tree oil as a douche, you must take care to dilute the oil with water to avoid burning the delicate skin around and inside the vagina. Always test a tiny area of skin on the outside of the vagina first before squirting the mixture inside the vaginal opening.

Yoghurt

Always use the unsweetened, natural plain type of yoghurt. Yoghurt contains beneficial lactobacillus bacteria – good bacteria which may be able to effectively compete with any bad microbes that might be causing your discomfort. Yoghurt can be applied directly using clean fingers to the vagina. Eating yoghurt, while beneficial is not going to be directly effective

Vinegar

Douching with diluted, unfiltered apple cider vinegar can help to restore the correct acidity to your vagina. Be careful to notice whether the itching increases or decreases, however. a vagina that is too acidic is an environment where Candida fungus thrives.

Epsom Salts

Soaking in a sitz bath which contains Epsom salts may help by lowering the acidity of the vagina. Be careful again to notice whether the itching increases or decreases – bacteria loves vaginas that are not acidic enough

Is it possible to mistake a yeast infection for early pregnancy?

Is it possible to mistake a yeast infection for early pregnancy?

I have all the symptoms of a yeast infection, but it seems more than that. I tried the monistat treatment but I had an allergic reaction to it – or something. I got really really itchy when I used it. anyways, along with that I have sore breasts, but they’re not hard and slight abdominal cramps, along with some slight spotting only when I wipe.

I have a dr’s appointment this week as well as an ultrasound but I just want to settle my mind for the tmie being

Answer:

No, most of us do not mistake a yeast infection for an early pregnancy symptom. the vagina is always self-cleaning and your normal discharge may or may not increase when you are pregnant.

Monistat usually makes me itch twice as much with the first application, after a few hours that itching goes away, which is why I use it at night, so I can sleep through the worst of it.

Different types of infections:

Signs of yeast infections:White, cottage cheese-like dischargeSwelling and pain around the vulvaIntense itching

Signs of bacterial vaginosis:A white, gray or yellowish vaginal dischargeA fishy odor that is strongest after sex or after washing with soapItching or burningSlight redness and swelling of the vagina or vulva

No-Shave-November:

Published: Monday, November 28, 2011

Updated: Monday, November 28, 2011

Right now we are in the midst of a phenomenon called “No-Shave-November.” It’s a male-dominated phenomenon – women participate less often, and women who choose not to shave their body hair that month are often met with contempt.

Before my participation in No-Shave-November, I had waged a war with my pubic hair…and lost. for reasons unquestioned, I felt like I had to remove that hair. It started with shaving. that went well for a while, until I began experiencing wicked razor burn and irritation. from there, I went on to waxing. I could handle the pain, but the waxes were difficult to schedule. I then moved onto a machine forged in the fires of Hell – the epilator. this small machine promised to “gently remove hair at the root for smooth skin for weeks.” Instead, the small machine snarled and whined while it ripped out my body hair, and left me gasping. It removed the hair, but it also left my skin red, raw, and sometimes bleeding. Then the real war began. I had developed large painful zit-like bumps on my pubic area that popped up every time I tried to remove the hair, whether by razor, wax, or epilation. I bought several kinds of expensive skin concoctions, but nothing seemed to work.

I visited my gynecologist, fed up with the bumps, the time, the money, and all that pain. she said that I had folliculitis, or infected hair follicles. And then she said the magic words: “Why are you removing your hair?” It seemed like such a simple question. But I had never asked myself that before.

I realized that I was so intent on removing my body hair because that’s what I thought that I was supposed to be doing, and no one ever questioned it. A body with a vagina should be hairless. I had never been taught or told anything different.

Then No-Shave-November rolled around, and my coworkers started growing out their beards. I found this the perfect opportunity to not shave my legs or armpits, because if I faced any stigma, I would have a valid excuse. I faced a ton. And I still do, because even after November, I decided to participate in “No-Shave-Ever.” Hair is there for a reason, and the time, money, pain, and waste created by removing that hair simply wasn’t worth it anymore.

I cannot even begin to explain the backlash that I have experienced from not shaving. I’ve had countless people tell me that I’m gross, unattractive or dirty. I’ve had several women tell me, “I wish I could do that,” and I always tell them that they can, because why should women have to shave, wax or pluck the hair off their bodies when our hair grows just as naturally as the hair on men that’s allowed to stay there? Removing one’s body hair is a personal choice, or at least it should be. But all too many women don’t see it that way. they see it as a feminine requirement, like I did. this needs to change.

There are also other reasons why this needs to change. Laura Hieronymous, nurse practitioner at the IU South Bend Health and Wellness Center, explained to me why hair – specifically pubic hair – should be left intact. other than folliculitis and ingrown hairs, removing one’s pubic hair makes them more prone to contracting, and spreading STIs. “I’ve seen cases of both men and women who have spread genital herpes lesions over the entire shaved [pubic] area. I’ve also seen HPV that causes spreading of warts all over the entire [hairless] front and back. It’s intensely itchy and uncomfortable,” she said.

Hieronymous also saw a particularly chilling case about four years ago, in which a woman she had treated contracted MRSA from a bikini wax, and ended up losing both of her legs from the infection. although Hieronymous does not like to recommend pubic hair removal in any way, if a patient is adamant about it, she suggests using scissors to cut the hair at the base, or using depilatories on the front, and she does not suggest any shaving from the pubic bone back.

Vaginal Discharge

Vaginal discharge is the discharge from the vagina in females and is a standard condition. the glands in the vagina and cervix produce this fluid to carry away the dead cells and the bacteria out of the body in the shape of this vaginal discharge. the liquid and cells are continuously shed through the vagina. this process deters infection and keeps the vagina clean. it is usually whitish in color and the consistency may vary according to the the point in the menstrual cycle. this discharge is normal but if it is discharged in excess or has weird appearance or odour, it could be a matter or worry.

1. Cervical Cancer: this sort of cancer starts in the cervix and has effects on the womans reproductive organs. the HPV virus causes this cervix cancer and this can be one of the reasons behind vaginal discharge.

2. Sexually Spread Disease: Diseases obtained through sexual contact is sometimes known as sexually communicated diseases or STI’s.

3. Bacterial Vaginosis: this is a condition of inflammation of the vagina when the bacteria present in the vagina multiply way too much and create disparity of the vaginal bacteria. Sex without protection may put one at a chance of getting this condition.

4. Vaginitis: this condition is one of the causes of vaginal discharge. it is the redness of the vagina that may cause discharge accompanied by agony and an itchy vagina.

5. Cervicitis: the inflammation of the cervix called cervicitis may lead to discharge in girls.

11. Chlamydia: this genital tract infection causes discharge in girls but this symptom may not show right away.

These are a selection of the causes of vaginal discharge in ladies. a woman should visit the doctor and get a check up done if she experiences thick cheesy like discharge, greenish or yellow colour discharge, foul smelling or powerful smelling vaginal odor, burning sensation, itching, redness of vagina or bleeding from vagina. many anti fungal creams can be gotten in the market for such conditions if it is caused by a yeast infection. one should avoid sexual contact in this condition and one can utilise a cold compress to obtain a feeling of relief from the swelling and itching. Aabab tablets are one of the organicand effective ways to cure vaginal discharge infection.

BLOG: Dear Ms. O (Mocha): To shave or not to shave?

Editor’s note: Mocha Uson is a performing artist who also gives advice on sex-related issues through her blogs. She used to have a monthly photo blog in Maxim Philippines.

My BF likes it when I shave. but the problem is that sometimes it can be very itchy! do girls really need to shave? can you also give me some advice on how to prevent vaginal itchiness caused by shaving?

Thanks so much! I always follow all your posts on your blog to satisfy my BF! More power!

Shaved pubes can increase sensation and sexual pleasure. there are also healthy reasons to shave down there.

Shaving your pubic hair can decrease vaginal odor and yeast infection. the most common yeast infection in women is called candidiasis.

Fungi or yeasts are commonly found in the human body. they thrive in wet and moist areas. Under certain circumstances, they multiply and become infectious. You can get yeast infection by trapping moisture in the vaginal area.

Pubic hair traps perspiration and moisture, making it vulnerable to yeast and also bacterial infections.

Symptoms of candidiasis:

  • thick/clumpy, sometimes watery white discharge
  • itching or burning sensation of the vagina
  • pain during intercourse
  • painful urination
  • redness and swelling of the vulva

Shaving your pubic hair is one way to prevent yeast infections. Here are some tips when shaving:

  1. Use a razor with a movable head and double blades/strips for extra lubrication
  2. Cover the area with shaving cream, or use hair conditioner.
  3. Shave in the direction of the hair growth or side by side.
  4. Put a little baby powder after shaving to avoid bikini bumps (or in-grown hair).

Use the razor to shave the hair covering the mons pubis (or the soft area of fatty tissue over the pubic bone). Don’t use razor on the lips of the vagina to avoid cutting the skin. You can use blunt-tipped manicure scissors to trim that area.

I suggest that you don’t shave it all off. Leave some hair. As the hair starts to grow back, it can be itchy and uncomfortable.

You can also try bikini laser hair removal. Laser reduces or eliminates razor bumps and redness.
