Yeast Infections « About Health

What is A Yeast Infection?

A yeast infection is an infection that starts due to an increase in the fungi that are already present in our body. They thrive in moist, warm places in our bodies, the most common being the underarms. When conditions are optimal their numbers surge and we get a yeast infection. the more common types of yeast infections that afflict people are vaginal yeast infections, nailbed infections, thrush and diaper rash infections. Other places where yeast infections may occur are the mouth, under the breasts and abdomen and other areas where there are skin folds. Constant sweating and moisture can increase the chances of a yeast infection.

Symptoms of A Yeast Infection

The common symptoms a yeast infection is an over all itchy feel in the area. Sometimes, especially in diaper areas, a red thin rash may occur and cause the child severe pain. Other similar patches may be in the surrounding areas. When the yeast infection occurs in the nailbed or foot and finger webs, they appear as soft red skin that is a bit swollen and a have a constant itch.

Thrush can manifest itself with a whitish patch on top a red area in the mouth. do not try to wipe the white areas away as it may bleed. an oral infection of this kind can make eating and drinking difficult. In vaginal yeast infections, some women may experience discharge that range from thick and whitish to thin and watery. there might be some smell but others say there is a smell that is similar to bread. there will eventually be pain when urinating and during intercourse.

What’s Making My Nipple Itch? Part II « Below the Belt: Women's Health

Now that we have reviewed the most, and least common, causes of itchy nipple(s), let’s see if one of these other skin conditions may be the culprit.

Contact Dermatitis

Most people are familiar with the type of contact dermatitis that may arise from poison oak/ivy, nickel earring posts, rubber/latex, or laundry products containing fragrance. these and other substances may trigger an itching of the skin, tenderness, and a variety of lesions (e.g., small blisters, red rashes) which can open to form crusting. Sometimes the skin reaction occurs after first contact, but in some cases repeated exposures over time are needed to induce the allergic reaction. when other causes have been ruled out a steroid cream/ointment, or tacrolimus, may be prescribed.

Seborrheic Dermatitis

Another common cause of itchy, inflamed skin is Seborrheic Dermatitis (SD). it particularly targets upper chest, back, scalp, and face where there is more sebum production. that is, SD is found where the skin is most oily. in addition to itching, there can be skin scales—flakey white or yellow in color. Between 11-12% of adults will have SD. The peak adult incidence is between the ages of 30 and 50.

The diagnosis of SD is based on the location of the lesions. Because it is a chronic condition, the person may give a history of having a similar outbreak in the same area.  SD tends to improve in the summertime. SD on the nipple can be treated with lotions containing selenium, ketoconazole, or corticosteroids. in a rigorous review of treatments for SD, ketoconazole was found to be the most effective, followed by another kind of antifungal, ciclopirox.

Candida

Most vaginal yeast infections are attributable to this type of fungus. Yet this is a less common cause of itchy nipple—except during breast feeding. in a study of 100 healthy breast feeding women between 2 and 9 weeks post partum, flaky or shiny skin accompanied by breast pain was the most likely to accurately predict a “yeast infection” of the nipple.

Diagnosis of candida of the nipple can be done with a skin scraping or a fungal culture. in a breastfeeding woman, itchy nipples may be treated presumptively (especially if the infant appears to have thrush in its mouth). during lactation nystatin-containing ointments or creams are used on the maternal nipples; the infant would receive an oral preparation of the nystatin.

Joggers’ Nipples

Irritation of sensitive nipple tissues can arise from rubbing of rough clothing or underclothes. Perhaps the most dramatic example of this is “joggers’ nipples”. in a report on dermatology injuries after running marathon races, between 3-16% of runners complained of nipple itching and irritation. Both men and women can be affected.

Neurodermatitis

Neurodermatitis is known by a variety of names including “itch scratch phenomena”. it starts with an irritation which could be eczema, atopic dermatitis, a fungal infection, or even rubbing by clothing. Chronic itching and scratching create a cycle of continued itching as nerve endings are stimulated. The result can be a roughened, thickened area of skin. While the extremities are common sites, it can also be found on the nipple—usually one side only. Neurodermatitis is more common among women, and is more prevalent between the ages of 30-50.

Diagnosis is made by ruling out other sources of itching. a skin biopsy might be done to confirm neurodermatitis if there has not been a response to other skin treatments. Since neurodermatitis can be exacerbated during times of stress and anxiety a person may be asked about their current stressors.

Given the variety of causes there are an assortment of treatments. Steroid ointments, or even steroids injected into the area to decrease inflammation might be prescribed. a 5% topical doxipen cream has had good results relieving itching. Tacrolimus ointment reversed the thickened, leathery skin caused by scratching. Successful alternative therapies have included TENS unit stimulators, and Chinese red hot needle therapy with cupping!

Self-help strategies encompass ways to stop the scratching to allow the skin to heal. The dermatologist may recommend occlusive dressings or bandages that both cover the skin from scratching and encourage medications to penetrate more deeply through thickened skin surfaces. One trigger for itching is dry skin, so avoiding long hot baths, minimizing soap use, and lubricating the skin while still damp may be helpful.

Before you feel crazed enough to “tear off” that itching nipple, my advice to you would be to see a healthcare provider to get an accurate diagnosis. Bear in mind that the culprit may be more than one condition, and that there are likely things you can do to decrease future problems. How the Itch Informs the Scratch

Itch. Past studies have shown that whatever the cause—perhaps just hearing me talk about itch—something triggers nerve fibers that send a signal lighting up three areas of the brain: the emotional regions; the limbic system that sparks the urge to scratch; and the cortex that tells you where to scratch.

and recently researchers discovered that where the itch begins can predict how bad it is—and how much pleasure you’ll get by scratching it. the study is in the British Journal of Dermatology.

the researchers induced an itch on the ankles, forearms and backs of 18 subjects. and the research team also relieved the itch in a uniform way with a scratching device, rather than let each subject go to town in different and unmeasureable ways.

the results: the experimentally induced itch was particularly bad on the back and ankle. and scratching the back got rid of the itch most effectively. but scratching the ankle provided the most pleasurable relief.

So not all itches are created equal, even if they’re induced equally. the next steps are to find out why, and whether there is a treatment that can match the pleasure of the scratch.

    • ANSWER: It sounds like you’re allergic to the toxins your body is trying to purge out through sweat and the skin. and it’s probably some toxin you absorbed at the factory.

You can apply benadryl cream to reduce the itchiness and the allergic reaction to the toxins. Use your regular soap when you wash, but nothing too strong. We do need some of the natural skin oil to protect your skin. The main thing you need to do is purge the toxins out of your body. since money is an issue, go to an organic health store or the organic section in a big supermarket and locate the homeopathic section. Purchase the remedy for heavy metal poisoning, see if that helps. if you don’t see any change after 2 weeks, try remedy for allergies. if that doesn’t work, then you need to see a homeopathic doctor to custom make a homeopathic medicine for you.

7 Tips to Stop Vaginal Itching

One of the most common and uncomfortable symptoms of a vaginal infection is the severe itching. Vaginal infections happen when bacteria, viruses or fungi multiply in and around the vagina. many of these microbes live naturally in and around the vagina. they produce acid which helps kill off bacteria and fungi that are not naturally present in great numbers. Vaginal infections are very common, 75% of women will get Candida albicans at least once in their adult life and around 25% will experience bacterial vaginosis (BV).

Symptoms of a vaginal infection include:

  • Itching Unpleasant smell (BV has a fishy odour, Candida does not usually smell but may have a yeasty odour)
  • Pain during sex
  • Red inflamed vulva
  • Abdominal pain
  • Bleeding after sex
  • Pain when passing urine
  • Abnormal vaginal discharge

Because the symptoms of BV and Candida are similar, it is important to consult your Doctor to ensure the right infection is treated. there are several things you can do at home to help ease the discomfort of vaginal itching.

1.Wear loose fitting clothes and cotton underwear. Synthetic and tight fitting clothes can make you hot and sweaty which encourages the infection.
2.do not use perfumed soaps, bath products, vaginal deodorants or antiseptics. these products aggravate the skin which is already sore. Use only plain water to wash
3.Use cold water or ice wrapped in cloth to soothe the itching. do not apply ice directly to your skin
4.Natural yoghurt applied directly to the area can soothe itching and help fight yeast infections
5.a warm salt water bath helps kill off infection
6.Aloe Vera gel is naturally soothing
7.Stop the burn when you pass urine by pouring warm water over your vulva while you pee.

Usual Treatments from your Doctor

Bacterial vaginosis is treated with antibiotics, which kill both good and bad bacteria, ironically leaving you open to yeast infections such as Candida

Candida antifungal treatments are available both over the counter and on prescription. while these work fairly quickly on curing symptoms many women find that the infection returns on a regular basis because the cause of the infection is not addressed. For any remedy to work for both BV and Candid it is important that the natural balance between good and bad bacteria is regained. For this reason many women turn to more natural and holistic treatments.

Could this have something to do with why the genitals are known as the privates, for this reason the secrecy in between fingers assembly up with the itchy genitals? Okay this doesn’t happen look nice to scrawb at your portions when in the company of people, but an itch is an itch and made with regard to scratching. And the other thing will be, what need to people believe for the reason why you scratch my partner and i.e. pubic head lice (crabs) or maybe VD may cross his or her mind. You can now always retire around the corner beyond sight to scratch, as well as find the root cause for your itches and also cure that. There are many reasons in charge of a penile itch as well as anus one particular vaginal itching. If you itch because you have a vaginal rash then this is easily treated and also rid using home treatments, nonetheless and more often than not a great itchy genitals comes about through vaginal bacterial infections.

One disease strongly related for triggering an itch is penile thrush. Much like specific bacterial infections they can also affect the penile opening and also surrounding epidermis along with soreness. Bear in mind that don’t assume all women get the symptoms linked to infection but if they do, where did they cope and also respond to penile treatments can differ greatly. There are 3 typical infections we address frequently and the reasons why is, which is normally one that is accountable for a oral itch.

If you experience vulval pain then we think about the yeast infection infection, bacterial vaginosis infection, trichomonas vaginalis and herpes virus simplex.

Thrush as we are aware is the effect of a fungal patient called Yeast infection which life in our systems. Candida albicans develop and muscle size around the reproductive organs which cause thrush symptoms. clarified symptoms are a white-colored, thick, yeasty sensing vaginal launch, and a quite itchy tender and crimson vulval region. Occasionally the anus (anal) beginning can also become painfully itches. most Vaginal infections excluding some STDs tend to be treated with anti-fungal drugs, penile creams, and also vaginal pessaries. Creams and pessaries which in turn need putting inside the genitals can nonetheless cause using up and epidermis irritation exactly like the thrush disease. Because of this confusion comes to the fore above whether it ‘s the side effects with the treatment or the symptoms of chlamydia. although penile treatments are looked at as safe — particular feminine products have to be ideal for your infection a person suffers from. If vulval skin will be itchy and also sore after that cream can fix easing pain. some medications come in dental form. Personalized preference can prevail with regard to whatever remedy you use, however if it is not a 100% for eradicating your disease then it is waste of time and money allowing you still infected. Temporary treatments are not i would love you want you need rid and also gone permanently. If you’re expecting a baby or breastfeeding your baby consult with General practitioner before using vaginal therapies.

Treatment for yeast infection can be obtained from the pharmacy but talk to the pharmacist prior to purchase simply because; it is possible to mis-use treatments for vaginal itching/soreness that are not thrush. incorrect treatments may result in long-standing vulval problems and can worsen the problem you set out to heal.

Do not let anyone inform you any different that whenever being identified as having thrush which you have been if perhaps you are. Thrush is not a sexually transported infection. Thrush does not always lead to symptoms in males and may found as balanitis or perhaps a non-specific urethritis (NSU.)

Bacterial vaginosis infection also like yeast infection bringing soreness, burning and itching with the vulva but seldom sees inflammation or puffiness. We affiliate the unpleasant fishy aroma with vaginosis and a odiferous grey as well as white penile discharge. Bacterial vaginosis infection (BV) comes about when the good bacterias in the genitals are taken off to make means for bad bacteria. So it is bad bacteria we look to treat and also destroy to help relieve soreness, reduce itching and also rid the rubbish smell. due to similar symptoms it is easy to believe you have yeast infection when you have BV. Bacterial Vaginosis may be the more severe out of your two bacterial infections because it can bring about internal disease called pelvic inflammatory disease.

Trichomonas Vaginalis

Are you currently diagnosed with possessing Trichomonas Vaginalis but at the time of diagnosis didn’t hear obviously or understand what the General practitioner had to declare. this happens normal where a female might have been afraid by the healthcare term used on her condition and also goes property none the wiser. Properly Trichomoniasis or Trich as it is called from time to time is a penile infection that causes vulva soreness, reddening and also inflammation. a typical symptom of Trich is really a foamy, yellow greenish penile discharge. a number of women really feel pain when weeing. The patient responsible for the symptoms is really a parasite in the penile mucus. this spreads via penetrative vaginal intercourse and the swap of penile fluid, which means, sharing adult sex toys or intercourse gadgets.

Herpes Simplex is a viral infection

Herpes exists in 2 types. Herpes simplex type one appears as cold sores around the mouth, and herpes virus simplex type 2 involves the reproductive organs. when the disease first shows its head, painful sores show around the vulva and genitals. it may injure to use the bathroom as urine is citrus and stings when it comes in contact with herpes virus sores. some other symptoms will include a tingly and itches swollen glands in the crotch and standard flu-like symptoms. Inflamed glands or flu-like symptoms only happen during the very first attack.

Much like particular infections, there is no everlasting way of ridding herpes and it is recurrence.

Now we have covered penile infections why don’t we focus on the penile rash and the ways to treat it. this should not take prolonged as it is just simply water that can do the trick. There are solutions with regard to soothing but merely keeping the refreshing airy and also dry can speed up the recovery process making this the best option.
